Its advantages are that the paint film has good flexibility, can adhere to metal substrates, and has low formaldehyde emission during curing. There are two series of this type of product, unalkylated methoxylyated glycurea resins and highly alkylated glycylated urea resins. CYMEL ®1172 is unalkylated. Glycurea resin, designed for low-temperature curing water-based coating systems. Highly alkylated resins, CYMEL 1170 and CYMEL 1171, are designed to replace HMMMs with the expectation of improved paint film flexibility. The evaluation of highly alkylated monomeric melamine resins also applies to alkylated glycurea resins.
