Height N-Butylated Melamine Resin
highly n-butylated melamine is similar to the commercial version of methyl etherified hexahydroxymethyl melamine (HMMM), except that it is n-butylated melamine. Compared with the corresponding methyl etherified resin, the highly n-butylated melamine resin is more of the oligomer type. Butylation or butoxane improves leveling and interlaminar adhesion, but cures more slowly than methyl etherified resins. However, highly butyl-etherated melamine resins are highly effective crosslinkers for functional polymers containing hydroxyl, carboxyl and amide groups with effective equivalents of 160-220. The advantages of the curing film are high flexibility when using soft body resin, excellent formulation stability, and excellent scratch resistance. Due to the high degree of alkylation, this series of resins requires the addition of a strong acid catalyst when baked at 125-150°C to obtain a satisfactory curing speed. In general, the recommended amount of p-toluene sulfonic acid is 0.2-0.4% of the total solids content of the crosslinker. The optimal concentration of acid catalysts depends on the composition in the formulation, which needs to be determined experimentally. Formulation stability can be increased by adding amine-blocking acid catalysts and alcohol-based solvents.
partial n-butyl etherated melamine resin, partial isobutylated melamine
can increase the stability of the formulation by adding amine or alcohol solvents. This class of isobutylated melamine resins is similar to polymeric n-butylated resins, except that they are "isobutylated" rather than "n-butylated". It is generally believed that isobutyl etherified melamine resin cures faster than n-butylated melamine resin, although the difference in methoxylation, alkoxyation and polymerization degrees is considered to be a more important factor affecting the curing speed. Previous evaluation of n-butyl etherified resins also applies to isobutyl etherified resins.
